Community Action Program for Children

Supporting Young Children

The Community Action Program for Children (CAP-C) is a community-based initiative dedicated to supporting and promoting the healthy growth and development of young children from birth to six years old. The program focuses on empowering families by providing access to essential resources, education, and culturally relevant supports that strengthen both children and parents. Through a variety of services and activities, CAP-C works to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment.

CAP-C offers a wide range of programs and supports that address multiple areas of family and child well-being. These include nutritional support, where families learn about healthy eating habits and gain access to nutritious foods; family resource services, which connect parents and caregivers to local community programs; and parenting classes that teach positive parenting strategies and encourage confident, informed caregiving. In addition, CAP-C provides child development activities designed to promote learning through play, creativity, and exploration, as well as outreach and specialized programming tailored to meet the unique needs of each family.

Fostering the Growth and Development of both Children and Parents

A key strength of the CAP-C program is its commitment to using traditional teachings and culturally grounded approaches to guide parenting and community engagement. Elders, knowledge keepers, and cultural mentors often play a role in sharing stories, ceremonies, and values that promote respect, connection, and balance within families. These teachings help parents strengthen their cultural identity while nurturing their children in a way that honors tradition and community.

The overarching goal of CAP-C is to foster the growth and development of both children and parents, building strong foundations for lifelong health and well-being. By creating a supportive network grounded in culture, respect, and education, CAP-C empowers families to build resilience, confidence, and lasting bonds that benefit future generations.
