Healthy Babies, Healthy Children
Community Tailored Services
Healthy Babies, Healthy Children (HBHC) is a comprehensive, family-centered program created to support parents and caregivers in giving their children the best possible start in life. Its purpose is to ensure that every child—regardless of background—has the opportunity to grow and thrive in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment. The program is dedicated to assisting Indigenous, non-Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit families, recognizing and respecting the diverse cultural values, traditions, and strengths within each community.
HBHC focuses on promoting healthy child development from birth to six years of age, providing families with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to reach their full potential. Through a combination of education, guidance, and hands-on support, parents gain confidence in their caregiving abilities and learn how to foster their child’s physical, emotional, and social well-being. The program emphasizes early intervention, understanding that the first few years of a child’s life are critical to lifelong health, learning, and development.

Personalized, Home-Based Support
A key feature of HBHC is its personalized, home-based support. Trained home visitors—such as public health nurses or family support workers—offer pre- and postnatal care, developmental screening, and parenting guidance directly in the home. This approach allows families to receive support in a comfortable and familiar environment, making it easier to build trust and address unique needs. Additionally, service coordination and referrals connect families with community resources, such as healthcare, childcare, mental health services, and early learning programs.
By integrating culturally relevant practices, respectful communication, and holistic care, Healthy Babies, Healthy Children fosters strong families and resilient communities. The program’s ultimate goal is to empower parents, promote healthy growth in children, and create a foundation for lifelong well-being—ensuring every child has the chance to reach their fullest potential in a supportive, loving environment.
